The author assesses current trends in adult education, substantiates its essence and characteristics, main priorit ies in view of the transformation processes in society, substantiates the main approaches to the implementation of European programmes in the field of adult education, mechanisms of interaction between participants, improvement of tools for adaptation to social changes, orientation of educational programmes towards motivation and activation of the adult population in view of social transformations. The author analyses current trends in adult education using the programmes of the European Association for the Education of Adults. Transformational processes are changing society, giving rise to new threats, new needs and the need for effective interaction. The use of effective mechanisms in adult education allows us to adapt to change and reduce social risks. The author determines that expanding the sphere of adult education involves addressing pressing social issues in light of contemporary challenges and transformational processes, including through the need to expand the knowledge and skills of the adult population through professional reorientation and individual educational trajectories. The author argues that adult education should be viewed not only in the context of professional and personal skills and adaptability, but also as a motivational factor and an opportunity to realise one's potential at different ages, change one's professional profile and approach to life. Adult education is a socio-psychological tool for engaging the population in an active lifestyle and self-realisation, providing space for the development of an active social position. Expanding the areas of interaction between participants contributes to the development of a knowledge society capable of addressing and adapting to existing and future challenges, increasing the activity of the population and motivating them to acquire new skills, knowledge and competences. Access to educational programmes in the field of adult education enables each age and social group to find its own (individual) path to self-realisation, acting as a supportive and motivating factor.
